A Look At Surgical Latex Gloves

Although there are latex gloves that are manufactured for almost any industry, surgical latex gloves are going to be made to a higher standard. Not only are they created as sterile surgical gloves, they are also sized differently in order to make sure that they are a snug fit in order to offer additional dexterity to the surgeon. There are also some latex free surgical gloves that are available for surgeons, but these are not going to provide as good of a feel as true latex. Even so, latex allergy symptoms would find the surgeon removing latex from the operating room and surgical latex gloves may not be preferable in this environment.

One of the first things that you should be looking for whenever choosing surgical latex gloves is the size. While regular latex exam gloves may be sized as small, medium and large, these sterile surgical gloves are typically sized by number. This will give a more precision fit to the surgeon and will allow them the dexterity to be able to handle the delicate items that they typically work on. Unfortunately, not all surgeons are able to use latex because of a latex allergy.

Although latex free surgical gloves are certainly available, they are not going to offer you the feel of real latex. That is why many surgeons are very cautious in order to make sure that there are no powdered latex gloves available in the vicinity, as these help to accelerate the onset of latex sensitivity in many cases. Due to the fact that removing these gloves allows the powder to be suspended in the air, the latex protein comes in contact with our eyes and nose and causes the sensitivity. This has become a real issue in many medical fields.

Another thing for you to consider whenever choosing latex gloves for surgery is the fact that not all of them are going to provide you with the same quality. Believe it or not, there are actually cheap latex gloves that are available but these may run the risk of breaking more often, which provides a real health risk for you and the individuals that you're working on. Many doctors also try to look for non-allergic latex gloves, but these do not really exist. The proteins that we are allergic to in natural latex also exist in these other gloves, although they are in smaller numbers. If you have a real issue with latex allergy, one of these non-allergic latex gloves could send you into anaphylactic shock just as quickly.

Once you find the surgical latex gloves that are comfortable for you, you will no doubt want to stick with that particular brand. These sterile surgical gloves offer us the ability to be able to work in delicate areas, while still maintaining our dexterity. At times, it may also be necessary for us to use latex free surgical gloves as well, but removing all latex from the operating room will not typically be necessary unless somebody has an extremely severe sensitivity to latex.
